we are buying a house that has marathon grass. the front yard is in pretty
good shape but the previous owners had two large dogs. the back grass has
lots of dead spots where the dogs urinated.
what is the best organic fertilizer?

One of the best is corn gluten based. Either that, or WOW Plus,
offered by Gardens Alive.

Lignite - open up soil and act as a buffer to the acid in the urine.
Corn Gluten - nitrogen
seaweed - increase chlorophyl levels
