Neem seed oil is one of he safest insect controls there are. Its sold
as a mix with a fatty acid, or other dispursing agent and mix with
water. Once insects like aphids come in contact with it, they will
die. It also disrupts their digestion, and they starve. Neem has also
beenn used as a mild fungicide. From its origin in India, its
considered a miracle. The neem is sold under many brand names for
garden use.

Toads work wonders, for sure, but I also use iron phosphate (Sluggo) and it=
works so well, I actually had Hosta leaves with no holes and my clematis h=
as never looked better than last summer.
Just a worry concerning the tobacco spray.
What about tobacco mosaic virus?
Tomatoes are very susceptible and I know alot of other vegetables/ ornament=
als are as well.

I have to chime in here too. I cannot say enough positive things when
raving about a product called Serenade Solutions. Its a fungicide and
because cukes and melons, as well as tomatoes usually die out from
disease before the summer is over, I decided to start spraying this on
the foliage of these plants. The cukes were still producing at the end
of the summer, even after most of the leaves were already dieing out.
Tomatoes were all doing quite well too, as these usually were totally
dead by the end of August, but I was still picking in October. I also
grew some small melons for the first time and they they too grew like
they were on steroids, with 25 foot long vines going in all
directions. I'll be using the Serenade again this year. I do apply
iron sulfate to my very black soil, as it seems iron isn't something
my garden has much of. Under the black top soil is a deep tan color
soil, where iron is more abundent, but iron will not travel up to the
surface very well, so I apply plenty each year. Because its a soil
acidifier too, I also add lime.
