Well, the forecast was for frost this morning and we got it.
The last 2 days I have been busy bringing in potted plants and trying
to find room for them. I'm not sure as to the count; but, between
the small ones, at least 2 doz 1 gallon pots, same of 2 gallon pots,
some 3 and a couple 5 gallon pots, I am walking around wondering
where to go with them now that they are indoor.
I did get out yesterday to get more screwhooks to place more
hanging plants in windows so the sills were free to set others. Once
Halloween is over I will have some space to place more when ghosts
and stuff go hide till next year. Fortunately, or not, by Christmas
the number of live species will dwindle. I know for a fact that some
of my basels will not suevive.
I can say that the green does make my house look very cheerful
inside. It will take a couple weeks till I get all where I want them
and get a rotation schdule made for the southern exposure. Also the
different smells of the plants are quite nice.
Well, the forecast is for a lot of work, and it will not go
away. I promised to make chocolate chip cookies for grades K thru
4th this week, enough for each child to get at least two cookies
each. I had a request for some Hungarian cream filled cookies for a
party at the local university for thursday, and if per chance I can
have them done early, a double batch might be really nice.
Yesterday I made a pork roast with rosemary( a lot ) along with
just a little chopped onion and a couple carrots. It turned out
quite good. Speaking of rosemary, I did get some planted 4 weeks
before frost as my directions mentioned. Also, one of my pots I got
in this week had rosemary in it that I planted in the spring. It did
not come up till the temps got cooler this fall. Now I will have two
pots of growing rosemary for the winter, inside for fresh cuts when
needed.

I have always cooked for my kids in school for all events. Than just start=
ed extra times just to get the classes to smile and have something to be ha=
ppy about. I have kind of become an adopted school blind person of sorts. =
They had even offered me a job.
It has kind of opened a new area for kids that have never eaten herbs =
in cooking, let alone grow them. You would be surprised at the number of c=
hildren that make their own food every night out of a box, bag or have to n=
uke it. There are a lot of parents that don't know and or care to be paren=
ts. I have kind of become a grandparent type. Children really like to hea=
r about my herb garden and see pictures. What I do in my garden and kitche=
n, the kids at schools are kept informed even if my children are out now.

Beth, there is hope after a killing frost. The ground temp will stay warm =
for days after it gets cold. Any low plants or ones near a building out of=
the wind will take it a couple days. Pots out in the open with tall stuff=
are toast, or in this case, frosted. Working with location allows room fo=
r allowances in extra time.
I still have plants outside, but they are next to my house on the sout=
h and east side. I planted rosemary outside the other week in a flower bed=
(used to be anyway) on the south-east corner of my house. It is mostly cho=
colate mint tea now. I have parsley in it that grows almost all winter if =
mild and having snow cover. I figure rosemary will be just as hardy as the=
parsley. The sun's heat keeps that area very warm and snow cover traps th=
e heat and keeps it that way when it gets really cold. ...................=
