Another strong weed is the "horse tail" one. Once, after weeding well, I =
put down 8 sheets of wet newspaper (wet to let it conform to the shape of t=
he flower bed) and laid black plastic on top of that. Gordie put down arou=
nd 6 inches of beauty bark. That summer, we had no horse tails but the fol=
lowing summer, the flowerbed was again full of healthy looking horse tails.

Ken -- OT means "off topic". We are supposed to use that when we are going
to post something that is aside from dahlias. However, I think weeds have a
lot to do with dahlias. The worst weed I contend with is Purslane. It is
pretty well gone at this time of year -- loves to grow during the early par=
t
of the dahlia season. Nearly impossible to get rid of because it reproduces
by seeds, any tiny little piece that lands on the soil and from the plants
as they grow, because they form roots all along the many stems.
