So regarding the shredded foam, I assume people put water in with
it? For cleanup purposes then, the foam stays wet for a while so you
would need to dry out before storing for a year? Isn't it messy
dumping out the water and trying to collect the shredded foam?
Response:
I fill my show containers with dry floral foam just before the =
start of the show season. Then I put water in each container the Thursday =
night before each show (the water has 2 Tbl of Bleach per 4 Gal of water). =
After each show I remove the blooms and turn the containers upside down on=
a screen made of hardware cloth stretched between some boards to drain mos=
t of the water. Then the next Thursday night I start all over. I usually =
do 7 to 9 shows per season and (because of the bleach) the containers stay =
fresh and usable all season. After the season is over, I take all the foam=
out of the containers, dry it good and save it for the next year. There i=
s a bit of loss of foam each week =96 I use my shop vac a lot around the st=
aging area =96 and there are quite a few complaints about green foam on the=
carpet, in the sink, in the washing machine, etc., etc=85

Dick,
Would there be a problem with putting the bleach in, say, on Friday
afternoon? I haven't gotten mine in the vases for the show tomorrow and
would like to use your method. I've usually emptied them between shows and
when I haven't, have worried about them failing because of disease.
