My hands hurt very badly when I get done pulling all of my weeds. With all
of the rain we've been getting lately, there are tons. I was wondering if
there is something that I could use, like the stuff that you throw down to =
kill
weeds. Would it hurt the plants?? Please let me know if you know of anythin=
g
else that I could do besides actually pulling them or something that will
reduce them. Thanks so much!!! Tammy

Tammy,

Have you thought of gloves? If you use Round-up or something, there is a
good chance even if there is the teeniest bit of wind that most of us cant
even feel, that some of the round up will get on your plants and pervert
them. My husband once sprayed by my roses. Swore he didn't get one iota on
the roses. Next thing the roses start looking strange, as do the leaves.
Wound up at the ag center, as no one could figure out what made the leaves
misshappen and such. He knew right away that it was overspray of Roundup.

I use leather gloves. Saves my hands and fingernails.

You could try "painting" them with Roundup - being careful not to get any o=
n your other plants. I would not use that in a vegetable garden however.

Ultimately the best way is to pull them. You could put down a pre-emergent =
on the area after they are pulled.

The other option is to use mulch...it helps keep the weeds down to minimum.

Tammy, I get the same problem, did you try using the magic claw first in th=
e
garden, that' softens the ground, then earier o pull the weeds with your
trowel... And you can get trowels made for people with arthritis, that migh=
t
help too.
I've been doing spot round upping too , I have a bad wrist and it's hard
weeding too.
Hope this helps some,
Love,
Denise

I keep trying to get rid of this "creeping" weed in my grass, but it spread=
s faster than I can find it. Can a certain spray kill that weed and not the
grass? or kill the weed and not the flowers? What kind?

The answer to your question is yes - but with limitations. You need to iden=
tify what the creeping weed is and what type of grass you have. Buy a weed =
killer for your particular type of grass and apply and your will more than =
likely get rid of the weed. But if the creeping weed is something like burm=
uda grass and your lawn is centipede or zoysia - that won't work. If you ha=
ve a good garden center, take the weed in there to get help.

You can put several layers of newspapers over the weeds and then put organi=
c
mulch/compost on top of the newspapers. The weeds will die, and the soil
will be improved because of the mulch and it'll be easier later to work in
the soil. Don't pollute the soil with herbicides. You want microbes and
worms in the soil - and they die/move away when you use chemicals.
