I have some gorgeous clay pots that I can't drill into. What can I
grow in them outdoors? How can I increase drainage? Or should I stick
with plants that like wet feet? Thanks.

Can you put the plant in a somewhat smaller pot that does have holes and pu=
t the whole thing in the clay pot that you want to use? You could put some =
pebbles in the bottom of the larger clay pot so that the plant would not be=
sitting in drainage water.

You could put the little pebbles in the bottom. I have little experience
with this, but I've heard it done.
Or, (what I would do) use a plastic pot with drainage holes as a liner.
This could be removed for watering and replaced.

I have found several lovely pots that do not have drainage holes which can =
be a big turn off since "the babies" do love to drain, but what I have done=
is gently drill my own holes into the bottom of the pot. The first thing t=
o do is try a pilot hole with a very small bit to ensure that the material =
will withstand being altered. If you are successful without starting any cr=
acks, then either continue with the small bit drilling several holes to acc=
omdate the size of your pot or move on to a larger bit and drill three hole=
s in a triangle shape in the middle.
I have tried the pebbles, clay pot pieces, and other "draining" materials, =
but I have found that most plants still appreciate the actual ability to dr=
ain. The only exception to this rule has been succulents or plants dwarfed =
for terarium planting. I have found then that charcoal is helpful to layer =
in with the pebbles. That would be another suggestion is to try layering pe=
bbles, clay pot pieces, and charcoal in the bottom of pots to simulate drai=
nage.
Good luck...

Hola- Here it goes! What I have done many times before is to plant the plan=
ts in plastic pots and then place the plastic pot inside the clay pot or wh=
atever pot I decide.

This may be a silly question but why can't you drill these clay pots?
You should be able to do so fairly easily with a masonry drill bit. As
someone here already said drill a pilot hole with a small bit and finish
with a large. If you live in an area with low rainfalls it probably
wouldn't hurt to use them outside with no holes. Otherwise I'd use them
only inside. That's just my quick opinion.
RonD
To make any size hole in either glazed or clay pots one must use a masonry =
bit to start a small hole. make sure the spot you are drilling is continual=
ly moist or else the drill will overload and will not even scratch the surf=
ace. When your small (pilot) hole is through the bottom change the bit size=
to one larger and increase sizes until your hole is big enough for your pl=
ants needs. Always keep the hole wet when enlarging it.
