caryopteris

I'm thinking of planting a caryopteris, probably Sunshine Blue. My
question is where I want to plant it gets morning and early afternoon
sun - not all day. Is this enough sun? Also it would be close to the
house where water overflows from the gutters in the winter and puts
ice on the plants below it. I just pulled out an azalea from that
spot because it was finally done in from the ice. Would caryopteris be
able to survive this? Could I cover it somehow in the winter.

I was plant shopping yesterday and found Caryopteris Sunshine Blue.
They wanted $30 for it so I decided to hold off and look around,
especially because it was completely bare - just brown twigs. Do they
leaf out really late? Or was this plant dead?=20

This is one of my favorite new plants. Caryopteris prefers dry soil especially in winter, does best with a minimum of 6 hours of sun a day, and yes it will leaf out later than some shrubs.
