agave indoors?

Hi all

My brother asked me about growing agave (esp A americana) indoors in
San Francisco. He has a wall of windows that faces northeast and has
no obstructions at all (he is on the 16th floor). I told him I was
doubtful that an agave would be happy there but thought I'd solicit
your input first.

He also has a balcony with a constant, moist breeze but I don't know
whether that would be much better for the agave.

Any thoughts?

Agave tend to be high light plants, so I think it would be doubtful it
would grow well there (although, people do keep cactus indoors, which
seem to never grow). If he has a balcony, why not try it out there? I
see Agaves all the time around here, and we get miserable, foggy
weather, and cold, dry winds, and they do fine. Even Agave attenuata
does fine in Monterey near the harbor
