potting dilemma

I have a Prunus 'Hally Jolivette' which is sticking way up out of the soil
because of a big root ball. I have been warned not to monkey too much with the
roots. It is in a 9 inch oval pot. I also have a larch that came in an extra
deep pot. I have a better pot for the larch. It is starting to show signs of
waking up, but no green yet. However, the larch is slated for a workshop toward
the end of March. It was potted last spring. Would it be all right to play
musical pots if I make sure the larch is tied down tight & is not disturbed much
in repotting? That way I could repot the Hally Jolivette in a better position
without too much root disturbance.
