why grass? there are so many perenials and annuals that show better and are=
easier to keep under realonable control ... if you're in Florida, zonal ge=
raniums can grow to eight feet tall to cover not only the stem wall but bre=
ak the sterile new wall (visually, not do damage to the wall) ... you just =
have to protect it from frost and freezing ... and it loves sandy soil ...

impatiens are nice and will do very well in sandy soil ... you almost can't=
over water them in that kind of soil ... impatiens also love the old-frond=
gaps ... you can grow them up and down any palm tree that's not been strip=
ped ...

just stay away from anything that has to freeze back and come back, like tu=
lips, and things that don't like high humidity ...

think of all kinds of foundation plants instead of just different grasses .=
..

anyway that's my 2=A2

I have 3 big clumps of zebra grasses and have had no trouble with them
spreading. Maybe it depends on what region they are grown in? I love my
zegra grass and the Miscanthus. Nice grasses. Another nice one is Blue Oat
Grass although it does stay short.

Marsha

I had someone give me zebra grass and it has spread very quikly.=20
The person that gave me the cuttings warned me that it can get out of
hand if not cut back regularly.-Cheryl

I am in need of some type of ornamental grass

I'm so bad with grass.. I planted some in my old yard and it sprang up all
over the place. Took me two years to dig it all out.. Hopefully someone here
knows which ones would be good and not take over the yard.. ~ pat

Pat,
Don't know what kind of grass you had, but next time(if there is a next time) use Roundup(or preferably a cheaper generic like Cornerstone and many others) herbicide to kill your grass in about 2 weeks time. Sorry, I'm not an expert on ornamental grasses, though--just how to get rid of unwanted ones in my crops.

I'm in a different house now, so if I try grass it will be a non seeding
kind. I'm pretty environmental in my property, and had in NY and here a wildlife
habitat so I probably wouldn't use the roundup cause of the bugs and the
frogs and such.. Ill just pay more attention to what I'm doing next time ( That
was over 15 years ago so I'm much better at selection now Thanks for the
answer though ~ Pat

RoundUp=AE for grass will kill all grasses ... be sure you don't use ANYTHI=
NG with a pre-emergent ... that means, anything that claims to clear an are=
a for nine months or so ... or stop seeds from sprouting if you plan to see=
d ... if you don't plan to seed, it's a good idea to use a "pre-emergent" t=
o keep weeds from sprouting in your flower garden ... it doesn't hurt seedl=
ings and small or large plants ...

Ribbon grass grows very well, super hardy and spreads quickly. I have
never bothered saving seed from mine, since I get soooooo many offsets
it is easier to divide then try to start seeds. It could be considered
invasive in some instances, but where I have it planted it is easy to
contain. I am in zone 4-5.
