Hello,
Ferns are moderately difficult to grow from spore. They just need the right
conditions like everything else. The main thing is that it takes a lot of
time. From spore to adult in most ferns will take several years. Ferns are
usually produced via offshoots and divisions. I doubt cutting would work,
but I could be wrong on that.

I was wondering if anyone has reproduced ferns? From reading about
it, it appears to be difficult. I would like to gind some spores and
try it or trade for cuttings. Do they grow from cuttings?=20=20
Thanks
Hola- In my orquid greenhouse I have some ferns, and they come up in all the orquid plants! I guess from the spores. I think that there must be a trick to it.

To get spores to grow you need to keep them wet for a long time...i
have seen a seed tray with moist soil and a piece of glass to fit over
it work great... most ferns can only be reproduced by root cuttings...
as long as there are roots and a stem it can grow from that...

In a Penn State Master gardener class, here in Bucks County, Pa., we
did put the visible spores from under the leaf in a small 1 oz cup
and covered it with a clear cup. The idea was just to keep some
visible water vapor. I wasn't very good at checking. It took a whole
year, but now I have a 1" Boston fern starting. Most of the class
did get tired of watching it. But I have it with the other orchids,
which I water twice a week. Hope this helps, Mike
