Sean and I were up at The University of the South today. I found out that
the Cumberland Plateau is amazingly diverse but that most of the land is
privately owned. It was also verified that its entirely possible we DO have
black panthers cruising around here now and then.
It was very cold up there as we walked all over campus. I was dressed
for it except that my wool socks were just not enough and I'm still thawing
out the feet. It snowed a little and was so pretty but the wind was cruel.

We're just back home. What a long day! Nice folks up there though, very
nice!

Sue, there are several universities and colleges offering great
opportunities such as this. All are very expensive (as is Suwannee) and all
are much MUCH further away. I'm hoping he attends Suwannee. He'd only be a
few hours away and he'd get a good challenge there. I was fairly impressed.
Oh and they have vegetarian food and REAL food in their cafeteria! No
starving student problems. They did say that they "used to" provide all the
food at the cafeteria in their gardens but that was no longer possible.
Bummer.
One problem that I detected yesterday is that homeschooling mothers
aren't given credit for being objective and honest. We were told a few
times that we needed other opinions beyond mine as to what Sean's
achievements are. "High ACT scores are all well and fine but......" We're
attaching samples of his tests and work and Sean is providing two extra
essays in the hopes this is convincing enough. Gee WHIZ!
Sue, to Sean, the best part about the school (beyond the Island Ecology
course) is the 10,000 acres of climax forest the school sits in.
is was is attractive to him about Dartmouth too (and proximity to Woods
Hole). I wonder if Dartmouth is a little less hostile about homeschooling.
