phormium and fescue?

I bought 2 dime phormium. One has new growth but one looks wet along
the base. Should I pull it, do you think? I'm wondering about root
rot. The other looked bad a long time but now has new shoots of grass
coming up?

Any special care required over winter for a clump of Elijah Blue
Fescue? It looks good.

Sounds like crown rot and your fescue willneed excellent drainage over the winter, otherwise it should be fine.

Should I pull the wet one or leave it in the ground and hope a few new shoots might still emerge, similar to the chocolate chip ajuga? I'm not sure I really planted them as deeply as the instructions said I should. Do you think I should mulch them?

Really? I'm glad I'm finding out now, because I would have been so sad next spring, to find it had died. The tag says it is hard to 17 below and lists it as a perennial. Why do they sell things listed as a perennial where they are not?

Is the Elijah Blue Fescue not hardy to my area either?

Phormium is not hardy to your area and will die over winter in your area anyways. The Ajuga is hardy to zone 4 and should be fine but it can be late to emerge in spring, so keep that in mind.

The fescue should be fine. Just keep in mind that a perennial in Alabama is not necassarily a perennial in Minnesota.
