I think he is lying to you. For one Round-up will kill all herbaceous vegetation it comes in contact with, so I highly doubt a farmer would be using it. What does he grow ? Round-up also is pretty much odorless, although he could have mixed it with something else and if any drift comes in contact with your plants, he is liable for your damages. I would make a police report if I were you, you will need documentation in order to collect damages. All pesticides are poisonous and harmful to the environment if used inappropriately, but Round-up is one of the safer ones.

something pretty strong in the air. Got to our throats and eyes. It
was a very windy day. At first we thought it was someone burning
illegally. Our shop is located on a farm and recently a plot of the land
was sold to a local farmer. I approached the guys who were spraying and
asked them what they are spraying. It turns out they were spraying
"Roundup". We use that around the shop and only on calm days and only
in small areas because of the toxicity.. These farmers were spraying
this for at least 2 hours in the open field. What a living hell it was
for us trying to work outside. a customer couldn't take it and left.
Roundup is hazardous to inhale and we were totally shocked that they
were spraying on such a windy day and so close to residential areas. I
did a little research on this farmer and it turns out there were
complaints on him a few years ago about the same issue and he was fined.
I called him and he apologized and claims the guys he hired to do the
spraying were on a heavy schedule and they were only able to spray
yesterday. I rent the schoolhouse in the back of the shop and when I
stepped outside this morning the smell was still lingering in the air.
It leaves this metallic taste in your mouth. I am not an
environmentalist but I may become one now.
What are your thoughts in Roundup?
Here is some health related info I found on it:

Jane,
I am fairly ambivalent about homeowners as a group using Roundup,
although small things do add up. It does concern me that the company
that produces Roundup controls the major part of the world's food seed
supply, and they are using genetic manipulation to create crops that
are resistant to Roundup. These monsters freely hybridize with natural
crops, and farmers who save their own seeds have even been sued for
growing crops that accidentally contain the patented genetic material.
There is no telling what the long term effects of eating these foods
might be.
These are the people you give your money to when you buy Roundup.
