
Some of the sites I looked at make me think the "peeling/cracking"
bark is normal thing. I wonder. One site said they
have "exfoliating" bark. Hard to know without really seeing it up
close.=20

I could only wish this was peeling bark. Sorry to say it is not. If
you look into the splits you will see the "meat" of the tree. The skin
is peeling back showing the tree. I also have a paperbark maple, that
has true peeling bark and is beautiful. So different is the problem
with the Katsura. Nothing like River Birch or Hickory either.
