Spores are not, as is commonly believed, the fern's equivalent of seed, but are comparable with the pollen grains of a flowering plant. The
adult fern as we know it is asexual =96 neuter =96 and produces clusters of=
sporangia which contain the spores on the backs of their fronds =96 or
leaves=85.
