Anyone know what type of pitcher plant this is?
I searched for types native to central Alabama and found none similar to
this one.
BUT then I suppose it could be a non-native?
Thanks!

Did you upload a pic of it? Attachments will not come thru to the list.

And yes - non-natives are proliferating thanks to well meaning but
ill-advised collectors spreading seeds from their own collections.
Re-introductions of sarracenia should involve the species that used to
grow there and not alien species. Currently, the only endangered
sarracenia species I have is the sarracenia oreophila. Hopefully I'll
get more under cultivation... There is an sarracenia rubra ssp.
alabamensis that's also endangered and also resides in Alabama...

Cheers,
Mike

Okay - I was thinking pitcher plant as in insectivorous Sarracenia
pitcher plant. The pics are of something else entirely - sorry, can't be
of help there. I *am* a sarracenia fanatic tho...

Oh My!
I do not know tha names.
I do know that it lures flies and has the pitcher at the bottom of the
flower, ya' know the resevoir thingy that collects water at the base of the
plant that the bugs are so attracted to, mainly flies for some reason.
It had a horrible odor!! As if a rotting /decaying animal was living inside
of it.I could not belive it was coming form the plant until I sniffed it!
WOW! The odor is now gone and the plant looks like it may be done with the
flowering cycle or something as it is starting to droop over, and most
blooms are closed up.
