I have one from my FIL's property - a mystery nanner and a few sumatrana
bananas and soon rajapuri and ice-cream nanner and I'm fixing to order a
few more. I got the sumatrana nanners from Aloha Tropicalsv. Only
problem is - they think they're rajapuri! Their replacement they sent is
the same as the original sumatrana. I have put in a lot of work with
lotsa images and lotsa exhortations for them to check their stock and
they have neglected to do so, so I no longer recommend them. I mean -
how can you mix up a sumatrana with a rajapuri!?!?!?!??!?! Night and
stinking day, these bananas! And now I'm stuck with a lot of sumatranas
that I really didn't want because their nanners don't produce edible
fruit. My FIL's is likely an acuminata.
So, I ordered rajapuri from http://www.banana-tree.com/ and I will
probably end up with every nanner they have. :) There are other sources
too that I'll work on not to mention sharing - I'm trying to build an
identification database for nanners much like one I'm using for taro so
I'll probably end up with a lot of nanners and plantains before long...
Nanners like lotsa moisture - but are totally intolerant of sitting in
water! Make sure their soil is free draining. If water tends to puddle
in that area, raise it. They're also heavy feeders - lotsa mulch, fish
emulsion, etc...
Next will be figs...

Mike
