Does anyone know how to get rid of the weed called creeping charley/ground
ivy? I lost a huge garden cart of mulch yesterday while weeding my hosta bed
because ground ivy/creeping charley had formed tight mats all through it. All I
could do was pick up the mats, (some as large as dinner trays and six inches
thick) and shake as much mulch off as I could. This stuff is all over our
property, and if I don't keep after it constantly it mats up in all my flower
beds, fence rows, lawn, etc.
I had to remove two large flower beds in my yard two years ago specifically
because I couldn't keep up with this nasty weed, it was just too much work.
The strange thing is, my neighbors have none in their yards, and our homes
are over fifty years old, and we've traded plants back and forth for years.
When they told me that I couldn't believe it so I asked if I could look, and they
didn't???
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kelly

Kelly, I have had to deal with that weed also. Both of my neighbors to
the east and west had it and it got into my yard and flower garden. I
was told by NDSU extension to use Trimec which is a liquid concentrate
that you mix with water and use. I sprayed every spring about 4 times
and then a couple times in the fall for a couple years and then I cut
back to a couple times in the spring and once in the fall. For my
flower garden spot I spray with Round-up in the spring on the open areas
of the garden. It seems to kill quite a distance because it gets to the
roots. I know just how invasive it is. Hope this of some help to you.
