slug bait omri approved?

Hi everyone,

I've been getting some interest from certified organic growers in the iron
phosphate slug bait that's marketed by Safer's & other companies (Sluggo,
Escargo). Checking on OMRI's website, I couldn't see whether or not it had
been approved.

Does anyone know of any certifiying bodies that have okayed it? Is there
anything in the formulation that may not be organic (I'm thinking GMOs if
the pasta pellet is made out of corn meal).

Any info would be much appreciated.

Sluggo (and consequently Escargo) has been submitted for OMRI certification,
but the manufacturer in Germany is not releasing all of the inert
ingredients,
not because they are afraid they will be rejected, but if the "recipe" gets
out,
they will be subject to piracy. Also, since the iron phosphate is not a
"mined"
product (it is generated at the plant from individual components) there is
less
likelihood of OMRI approving the formulation. In any case, if OMRI approval
does
happen, it won't be for at least 2 years. It's not happening this year, and
it
probably won't happen next year.

Eric,

Would you consider this product organic then? It's a shame if it's not, a
lot of organic gardeners I know love this product.
