In my own garden I work without gloves, but when I'm down at our Monet
Garden I do were them since we have no idea what was in that soil before. We
do still find some building rubble, but since it is in the city it's a bit
questionable.

You just reminded me of one garden I serviced many years ago which had a
small holly leaning over a flower border. As I normally weed bare-handed
I soon found out the hard way how long the prickles survive!!

Does anybody but me weed with out gloves? I love to feel the earth on my
hands but also I find that no glove I have ever tried allows me to do
really fine weeding satisfactorily.

I did though wear strong leather gloves for pruning or my hands would
have worn out entirely after 32 winter rounds!

I never use gloves, not even for blackberries. And right now I am using dry canes for getting the oak to burn when it just smoulders. It takes quite a bit, but works better than paper.
