Carol, there's a new variety of Asian pear called "Mishirasu" that is
russeted, and shaped like a European pear. I just received catalog for
Raintree Nursery that's offering them. They're online at

Plant breeders are active all over the world, Carol. It could be a new
breed from Norway/Finland/ the Netherlands/Germany/ who knows? My point

Except for the skin color, yes, Margaret. Perhaps it was grown in Denmark and turned red? Hard to know. Shape is correct at least.

Only way to find out is for my daughter to ask in the organic shop what the pear was! I'll ask her to.
