I am 'drowing' in nice plant-/sees catalogues and magazines from this
weekend. You sure do get a 'forrest' of catalogues ... I am overwhelmed!
THANK you Linda and Elisabeth!

In one hosta magazine I read a tips about slugs from New Zealand:
'Fine sheep wool clippings (sheep dogs) are an effective natural slug and
snal repellent and fertilizer for your hosta.'
- that was all it told? - I suppose we should have it arounnd basis of
plant - does anyone know?

Do you mean wool clippings from sheep or hair clippings from sheep
dogs??? There is a product, like a woven mat, made from unmarketable
sheep wool. I don't remember it's name but I received a sample in
the mail a long time ago. I think it was used as a mulch mat for
weed suppression... nothing related to slug or insect repellant. If
it's dog hair... I don't know.

Hair is supposed to be good for repelling slugs...short hair with sharp
edges. And it's supposed to add nutrients.

Hubby volunteered for a haircut, so I've tried hairy protection around some
vulnerable plants and sprinkling hair in one bed the slugs love. I haven't
noticed much difference. Somehow, I either don't distribute enough hair to
protect plants adequately or there aren't enough short, sharp edges to do
much good.

Maybe they call the wool clippings left over after shearing sheep 'sheep
dogs?' Those would be nice and short and would probably be sharp enough to
do some sluggy damage.

My goodness! Some people must have too much free time on their hands to
go to all this effort.

Linda .. I am not sure - it doesn't tell more - I wrote down just the few
words that were there. I might ask in hostalists? As I understodd it it
should be real sheeps, and then I understood it as it could also be from
sheep dogs? It is said to be a repellant .. so maybe it is the smell?
