Well, I have lived here for almost 12 years...I have seen evidence of a
snake and my neighbors have seen one, a year or two ago...I was can watering my
container plants when something moved and I looked over and viola...a 5 foot
long black snake on my deck steps!!!!!!!!!!! I ran to the front of my house to
tell my hubby he needed to get that snake!! He went out with a broom and it
went underneath the deck, but he couldn't see it. He came back into the house
and when I looked out a short time later, he was coming up through the slats
on my deck. I am completely grossed out...yuck...

Oh they are GOOD snakes, Nadine! I know how disconcerting they can be
however! BUT much less disconcerting than the poisonous ones...

Debbie wondering if I'll now see Rattlesnakes in addition to copperheads in
my new yard in NC...

That snake is a lot more frightened than you are. But I know how you feel.
Last week I went out to my koi pond which is covered with netting to keep
varmints (such as snakes) out. The fish did not come to the top to eat and
then I saw the snake, trapped in the net. His head was in the water and
his hind sides were flapping. I screamed. DH came and grabbed the snake
by the tail but could not pull him out. This went on for awhile but
finally we cut the snake in two and the head fell into the water. I was
panicked, thinking it could still eat my fish. DH said, " Well if it does
eat them, the fish will come out the back end."
Later on this week, the front end floated to the top and the saga ended.
Keep the faith.

That's why I stopped using the flexible netting. I can't see killing
healthy snakes with it, which is exactly what happened to me once...and
another time I saved (with the help of animal control) another snake that
was caught in the same kind of netting.
