My experience (and also years' old advice from the head of hort at Penn
State) is that cigarette smokers can spread tmv to their plants if they
don't wash their hands between smoking and touching/handling the plant.
I smoke, and when I'm not careful, I have given the dread disease to my
chiles and once to my tomatoes.
