amaryllis igen

A new question: I never cut off green leaves. Now I am forcing my largest amaryllis in the upstairs bathroom and its 16 old leaves are brown and even black except where they join the bulb. There they are red in the center and yellowish at two sides.

These many leaves are forcing the new leaves to come up in a very awkward position. Besides the flower stalk looks very promising, so pretty soon I want to put it in the window for others to enjoy. Minus the 16 old leaves.

I assume it is okay to cut them off at the point where they would fall off in a few days anyway...

Whew! I did it a couple of hours ago and the amaryllis is now gracing a flower stand by my coffee table. The flower stalk is about 1 2/3 feet high, so it was time to move it.
