Also in the latest issue of Sunset is a neat idea for a shade umbrella
stand/plant pot:
You take a large (at least 15" tall) ceramic pot, cover holes with
screening, fill with 1" crushed lava stone, place pvc pipe into stone,
add more lava stone to hold pipe, add 2-3" concrete, place 6 - 3/4"
dowels through concrete to create drain holes, let set, remove dowels,
fill with potting mix, plant with flowers and add umbrella (use shims if
umbrella is loose in the pipe).
Looks really neat.
