Well, some of those migrant workers still have stomach pains, diarrhea, =
rashes and nausea, but large fines (not large enough IMO) are looming =
for the people responsible for the poisoning. The field was sprayed by =
air -- a pesticide mixture of "Lannate LV, Mustang Max and Dithane DF" =
There were 29 workers poisoned, the field across from a busy discount =
filling station (very fortunate it wasn't remote -- it might have =
escaped public attention). Posting signs after spraying with this =
mixture is NOT REQUIRED by the state...a coalition of 180 farmers who =
hire migrants (the state dept. of ag director is a farmer and a member =
of this coalition, so he's not involved in this investigation) may be =
fined, and so too the company that owns the aerial spray equipment. =
Labor committee workers are now required to review a Dept. of Ag =
training video, and about 1,000 workers ave taken the training since =
this July 6 poisoning. I don't know what good that's going to do, the =
crew chief of those poisoned had taken the training and "didn't notice =
the pesticide had been newly sprayed on the field." At least some of =
those workers will get Workmen's Comp, including lost wages. I think at =
the very least the state law should be changed, requiring posting of =
notice that the pesticide had been applied. Better yet, stop using that =
junk. Margaret L

don't you suppose that combining that s**t makes it even worse? They
don't have any idea what might happen when you combine stuff like that.=20=

It is bad enough by itself!!

I have no idea what any of it is, or is used for.

A few years back there actually was a report in the national news media of
one incident in Florida were migrant workers were working in a lettuce field
and the company that was to aerial spray did, with the workers in the field.
Nothing was ever reported about what happened to the sprayer or his company
that I recall, but The University of Florida, Texas A & M and Baylor, and
the University of California do have on their web sites reports of treating
migrant workers that have been exposed to many pesticides and the resulting
harm done to them. This is not being reported by our news media as it should
be and most likely would have little affect on the average Joe Citizen since
he seems not too concerned about the housing problems migrant face which is.
