"Raising" potatoes,
I got my potatoes out early and harvested some about the 3rd week in
July (z6/7). This was in the food pantry garden I am coordinator for.
I was glad for all the help that came, but i was stressed giving
guidance and keeping everyone busy.
Now I see that they missed some spuds and we have a number of plants
growing. Some have produced spuds 2" or more in diameter.
Why are the sprouted potatoes hard and have a bad taste?
Has anyone had success planting potatoes in July (say after green pea
harvest)?
Does anyone beside some Pennsylvanians speak of harvesting potatoes as
"raising" potatoes?
Thanks,
Dave

That's about the time I harvested mine, here in the Piedmont area of =
central
Virginia.

That has not been my experience with missed potatoes. The plants =
usually
yield very pretty "new" potatoes in the time remaining until the frost.

Yes, sort of. I never plant the same quantity as I did in March. =
Usually
just plant leftovers. But they come up and produce a modest harvest of
small to medium sized potatoes.

Haven't heard the term around here, but then maybe I haven't paid close
enough attention.
