Oh nuts! You are absolutely right, Geralyn. I apologize to all for the
lapse. For the past 3 years or so I've been great about not rising to
baiting or snapping off huffy notes. Today was an oops! likely related
to being infuriated with CitiCorp. My guard was down. Sorry.
The best course for all is to terminate this thread.

I enjoyed reading your post Jaime. As long as people don't get downright
insulting to others and start writing abusively, freedom of speech allows
for strong opinions doesn't it - even on an email list? The trick I
think is just to disagree agreeably.

Politeness counts.
Respect for each other and our right to
different opinions (as long as those opinions
show respect for each other, too) count.
Strong opinions are fine, given proper notice
for the above two...politeness and respect for each other.
Freedom of speech is something governmental, a legality localized in a small
part of the world. Therefore, freedom of speech doesn't really count in an
email discussion forum because discussion lists aren't government entities.

Seriously? I had thought it would apply to all forms of communication
under the country you live in. But now that I reflect on it, this email
list is actually privately owned or run (whatever), isn't it?
