Okay, June had her wedding and apparently a week off. Isn't it about time
she regaled us with all of the details? The groom's mother showed up with
an identical dress, but hers was slit up to Indonesia, the groom's widowed
uncle drank champagne out of June's silver slippers (even though they were
sandals), etc. Did the wedding take place? Details, details. Margaret L
Dear Margarget and all,
I had two weeks off - yahoo! - and I hit the ground running at work
at the new semester starts off.
It's funny how much can change in two short weeks. I mowed the lawn
before I left and weed-whacked too, and even clipped the two bushes
in the driveway so everything looked neat and trim. The large Big Boy
tomatoes were just turning a yellow color so I knew they would ripen
while I was in Virginia.
I flew down from Providence Airport (actually in Warwick near my
sister's house and left my car in her driveway. She and her husband
drove down and she took my luggage for me. I only had to hop on
the plane. It was $76.00 to Baltimore, and then a $5.00 train ticket
into Union Station in Washington, D.C. where I was picked up by one
of the bridesmaids and taken to my hotel (Hampton Inn) in Fairfax.
I really enjoyed the plane ride - perfect day and great visability.
My money flew away like rose petals on the wind. :)
I had my Nikon one-shot camera and took snapshots when I could - got
some nice ones too.
The wedding ceremony in Arlington Chapel was gorgeous -- my daughter
was absolutely beautiful in her strapless gown -- seed pearls and
long train - bouquet of white lilies and dark blue flowers that were
bell-shaped. Open bar, expensive buffet. I noticed the salmon had
a sweet taste and was told they used terraki (sp) sauce.
Lost my pearl stud earrings -- rushed out and bought another pair.
Found the pearl stud earrings so now I have two pair.
My sister left in handbag with $400 in cash in the restaurant on the
floor. She was getting in her car when she missed it -- they rushed
back and found it sitting there untouched. Credit cards, etc. were
in there too.
We went to welcoming barbeque to meet the new inlaws. The Colonel
made the baked chicken with KC Masterpiece sauce (very good too),
home made baked beans (some brown sugar in there) - and other stuff.
They were hitting the martinis - I only drink soda. Not a problem
for me.
I wore the royal blue dress with a slit up the back, pearls and
a rhinestone pin, and pearl grey sandals with rhinestone straps.
I nearly died with the shoes! Pain, I tell you.
Other mother wore lavender - she is a tiny woman. Her husband,
the Colonel, wore his marine uniform.
Kelly's husband Patrick was most handsome.
I rode home with my sister and her husband through Penna. -- green and
gorgeous --hills and valleys -- we took RT. 123 and skipped the
traffic of the New York bridge, etc. Long ride but nicer than the
train. Lots of bonding with kid sister. :)
My sister had hotel discounts with the free ride home, she saved me
$400.00. I'm very grateful to her.
Well, my youngest is married. I'm a free woman. :)
As soon as I got home I ran around the yard. Got **huge** ripe tomatoes.
I had put some netting around them to discourage Mr. Vole and it worked!
Best,
June (the frazzled, now poor, mom of the bride :) Oh, there was a bit
of a fracus with the bridemaids because of a boyfriend. Details on
that back line. ;)
