Harry,
You have planted some of my very favorite roses and the most durable.
I've had my Tropicana and Chrysler Imperial for almost fifteen years and
they have gone through some very tough times.

With all the drought we've had in central Mississippi
(15" below normal on rain, 16 100+ days since July 10),
with my St Augustine lawn long since gone brown and
crunchy, with the rudbeckia saying "what, you expect us
to BLOOM???" - in the midst of all this, my fledgling
rose garden has been an unexpected success. I certainly
haven't babied them - I rarely water, haven't fertilized
except for one feeding of Miracl-Gro at half-strength in
early June - but all are now thriving, and blooming -
even the two Roundup victims, and the two I transplanted
rather rudely from the back yard. My respect for roses
has increased markedly, and I may try to work more
into mixed areas next year. Blooming right now are
Tropicana, Chrysler Imperial, Blaze, Iceberg, and
that pink whose name I don't know (one of the backyard
transplants, along with Blaze); Europeana has been
blooming, and has fresh buds; only Oregold is bloomless
*and* budless, and it recently had several blooms.
I have noticed some black spot on Tropicana this week,
but the rest are (apparently) pest and disease free.
Who'da thunk it?
