Yes, that's right.

And your 8 oz. teacup is what the American system calls a cup too.
Interesting to know that there is a form of 10 oz. Imperial cup is use too.

Hi Bob
I just came across this old query of yours when sorting out my mail and
can't remember anybody else giving you an answer. NZ has been fully
metric for many years, but I was brought up with the imperial measures
and still remember them quite clearly.

In one imperial gallon there are 4 quarts and eight pints, just like the
American masures, but each pint is divided into 20 ounces, while I
believe the Americans run to only 16 (am I right folks?)

A 5oz quarter pint is also known as a gill (soft "g")

And the cups are a bit more complicated also, as there are two
categories
Teacups of 8 ounces and Breakfast Cups of 10 ounces (half a pint)

Cheers

and just for extra entertainment in some parts of the UK there is a 5 oz

young days)

thank goodness for the metric system - I still have nightmares about doing
arithmetic in imperial weights and measures
