This looks interesting for those who are dissatisfied w/ the price and
quality of commercial preparations.

I was at their annual conference a couple weeks ago and learned a lot! The
theme of this year's meeting was supporting local farmers. Great group,
which I do belong to.

Hi Bille

OEFFA is a neat organization and does a lot of good. I am proud to be a
member of it!

Hi Susan,

I am also building raised beds by digging the soil out of the paths. I
have lots of clay in my soil and have found if I use solid lumps of soil
about the length of my shovel and about 3 inches deep around the edges of
the raised bed they seem to stay in place well and resist eroding. They
even stood up under a 6-goat garden rampage!!!

winter's final fling and spring will soon arrive)

Hi Susan,

Sorry to be slow answering your post. I am several days behind reading
my mail and now for some reason my phone line is dead.

I live in Preble County between Gratis and Camden which is about a 30
minute drive from Hamilton. Am originally from Hamilton until my uncle
bought this farm and asked us to live on it with him (he was 94 when he
died last fall).

How long have you lived in Virginia?

OEFFA is short for the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association which
(to quote their blurb in their newsletter and says it better than I can)
is a nonprofit organization for farmers, gardeners and citizens
interested in ecological agriculture and creating a sustainable
alternative food system.

Small world!

I lived in Hamilton (except for 3 years in grade school) until I was 35, then
married Chris, who also lived in Hamilton as a teen, and we moved to Montana for
a year, then here to VA and have lived here for 27 years. and really love it. My
father still lives in Hamilton, he is 91. How nice to have a farm there. I was a
"city girl" until I married Chris.

Did you go to Hamilton High, or Garfield or Taft?

I'll have to look you up on the map. I go to visit my father once or twice a
year.

Isn't it, though!!!

I went to Hamilton High and graduated in 58 - next to the last class to
graduate from the original building.

My mom is 92, almost 93 and lives with me. Let me know when you come to
Hamilton again, and maybe we could meet if you are interested.
