I wanted to chime in on WFF and Daffodil Mart.

I love the WFF catalog, but I keep finding better prices (way better). But I see
things there I want, just can't get of of the cash.

One of the places that is better is DM. Their prices are great, by the standards
I see in the many catalogs I get. And I counldn't be happier with the quality of
the bulbs, and the care they take in packing and shipping. it is simply the best
i have seen. You just have to be willing to by larger quantities. I got these
ornithogalum bulbs last spring (Star of Bethlehem) that were simply gigantic. Also
the day lilly mix I got was great (this pink one..I didn't know they came like
that). I intend to get a bunch more of the day lillies. Not much grows better
here than they do.

The other neat thing about the DM is the native and "wild" selection. So many
things I have never heard of. these are the really cost effective ones too. I got
Ixia and Acidothera. Both really cheap. (Although I keep picking up the Peacock
Orchids at Southern states for 60% off late in the season which is cheaper). Good
thing they are so durable.

I never would have guessed there was a relationship between DM and WFF.

Need I mention the size of perennials from Jackson and Perkins? They always look
OK and are well packed, butfor my money they must be the smallest that can be
sold.

The Daffoldil Mart is the best I've seen so far. Anyone have a favorite I need to
look at?

[Hi Janet, Sorry your toms are dissappointing. From what I see you can't take
crappy, unbuilt soil and compete with blue/green stuff in just one year. It takes
3 years of compost, etc. to get things right. (At least my sand did. You can't
add enough OG matter to sand in one year to do right. And the micros need time.)
After that the green stuff has no chance. Especially if it is far enough away not
to benefit from all the beneficials and pollinators. How the heck do you prove
this scientifically? That is the thing I have learned since our round abouts on
the AGRISYNERGY list. On the surface it seems like you should be able to prove
something but in reality everything seems arguable. I have decided to quit
arguing and go with intuition and aesthetics. Besides, I love all the neat bugs.]

Where does everyone find the time to write mail? That is the question.

Sun and rain to all,

Mike
