I'd put it in a nice warn, sunny spot and hope in time it grows new pieces
from the roots, and then I'd cut away the old one.

My son gave me a spiny cactus to gobble up the fumes from my
computer. It's grown huge, but got dropped on its head some months
ago, and te top got crushed. It's now distressingly scabby-looking.

I thought it would regrow its skin and spines, but it hasn't. Is
there anything I can do?

Hmmm. I've had my cactus, what... three years? four? and no sign of
any pups yet.

My computer doesn't run on gasoline, but the son says they can give
off nasty fumes of some sort, and apparently spider plants and cacti
just yum up these fumes.

I have found that spiny cactuses seem to scar badly when damaged and
never regain their original good looks.

However don't despair, if you are patient the majority will bud of nice
fresh-looking "pups" which can easily be detached from the damaged
parent and persuaded to grow in to nice unmarked replacements.

Hmm! That may well be. Don't you have any spider plants? I could send you=
about 100 if you are really afraid of those "fumes".

It all depends on how long one sits in front of the computer, you see, an=
d if it is just long enough to read email and reply to some, you won=B4t =
suffer any damage. It's more people who work from 8-12 hours at a compute=
r who need to worry.

Know it very well. Spent 22 years working as an engineer in IBM. Testing and
using computers and computer monitors. And, not afraid of either.

More radiation the more time you spend at the computer. It isn't fumes but radiation (also radiation from your TV - did you know that?)
