spiders and ants in appreciation

This is a late comment on this thread, but I love spiders and ants. I
love spiders inside and outside and this year I've fallen in love
with a particular species of garden spider that has the most
beautiful black and white stripes on her back. I say her, but I've
seen several around the garden. We also have a large wolf spider
that grows to be 2 inches across. It, unfortunately is an import, so
that makes me wonder what natives it will be devouring and making
extinct, but nevertheless, to me it is a beautiful specimen. Quite
easy to see all its eyes. Some have a delicate mottling on their
backs. They are fast buggers and make even me jump at times. Then
there are the long legged spiders that build delicate, invisible webs
in the bathroom. It never feels quite right to go in and not say
hello to her, whichever corner she is in.

Then there are the ants. I love observing ant society. Of course, I
don't like them in the house, but I take great joy in watching them
in my gardens. Someday I'll post about the spider-ant battle i
watched one day. Great drama, better than Gladiator!
