Put two amaryllis about to flower in a window, at opposite ends. They will gradually bend toward each other, the leaves with get mixed up, and the flowers would touch (in my window) if they didn't suddenly rise upward when they open up.

(Noisy as usual on New Year's Eve, but pretty too - some great fireworks! They are imported, mostly from China, and are very impressive, the same as Tivoli shoots off twice a week in Copenhagen.)
