This thread reminded me -- I wanted to ask you all about garter snakes.
I've seen 5 or 6 on the property so far (although only one right near the
garden area) and I have this idea that they are a good thing (call Martha
Stewart!), but all I can think of is that they eat toads -- which I *know*
are a good thing, and of which I have only seen one so far. Do snakes eat
slugs? We have a few of those that could use slaying (particular the one
that ate one of the parsley plants -- it took me THREE WEEKS to germinate
that seed, you little devil-creature!). Not that I would *kill* the
garters, regardless -- I'm just curious about what the good creature:bad
creature ratio is.
BTW, is there anything that eats black flies? I would happily co-exist
with one of those scary, speedy, flesh-tearing dinosaurs from Jurassic
Park, if they would take care of *that* population...
Thanks,
Drea
