CACTUS NAME TRIVIA QUESTION
This quiz was prompted by a question from Margaret L. concerning a
cactus plant to match with the name "Pitahaya." Common names in the
cactus can be rather interesting and often misleading. Hence, lets get
a few of these common names associated with their correct scientific
names
On the left below are the common names of six common cacti that are
native to the United States. On the right are a list of scientific
names. Match the common cactus name on the left with the correct
scientific name on the right.
1. Pitahaya or Organ Pipe A. Homalocephala texensis
2. Saguaro B. Opuntia linguiformus
3. Horse crippler C. Carnegiea gigantea
4. Teddy Bear Cholla D. Opuntia bigelovii
5. Cow tongue E. Ariocarpus fissuratus
6. Living Rock F. Lemaireocereus thurberi
You are allowed to look these up in your cactus books. At least that
will get the dust off them. :-)
Good luck.
