This is from the SANET list and I know some of you will get it twice but
many won't.
I wish SO MUCH that I could attend. Eliot Coleman and Gene Logsdon in one

It makes those free Chieftains concert tickets we were given for that same
weekend seem dim in comparison.

OEFFA Announces 26th Annual Conference
Columbus--The Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association is proud to announce
its 26th Annual Conference, themed "Seeding the Soil, Setting the Table:
Working Together to Grow." The conference will be held March 5th and 6th at
Northridge High School in Johnstown, Ohio. Experts from Ohio and around the
country will be on hand sharing sustainable agriculture production and
marketing techniques through a wide variety of workshops and keynote
addresses. The OEFFA conference is Ohio's largest annual gathering of
sustainable and organic farmers, consumers, educators, researchers, and
retailers.
A highlight of the conference will be keynote speakers Eliot Coleman and
Gene Logsdon. Coleman is an influential practitioner of organic gardening
and farming, who teaches a "plant-positive" approach to horticulture that
yields exceptionally nutritious and delicious vegetables year-round from his
farm in Maine. His books include The New Organic Grower and Four Season
Harvest. Gene Logsdon, who farms in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, writes with one
of the clearest and most original voices of rural America. He has published
over a dozen books, including Living at Nature's Pace, The Contrary Farmer,
and his most recent, All Flesh is Grass.
"OEFFA's mission," said President Mike Laughlin, "is to cultivate an
agriculture which is economically viable and environmentally sound, which
keeps people healthy and strengthens our communities. Our annual conference
makes an important contribution to that goal."
The conference will feature over fifty workshops on sustainable and organic
food production, marketing, policy, networking and related topics.
Workshops topics include soil biology and testing, organic weed and pest
control, grass-based livestock, CSAs, cut flowers, seed starting,
irrigation, growing edamame, profiles of local and organic food consumers,
honey bees, natural building techniques and solar power, apprenticeships,
community gardening, and more!
Other activities will include contra dancing and drumming on Saturday night,
a silent auction, and meals featuring locally produced organic food. A
trade show will offer an interesting assortment of exhibitors including
vendors, service providers, and non-profit organizations. The kids'
conference will offer hands-on interactive workshops for children ages 6 to
12, and child care will be available for younger children.
Registration fees for the two days begin at $75, with volunteer discounts
available. The early registration deadline is February 14th. Single day
registrations will be accepted. It will also be possible to register
on-site, although only a limited number of meals will be available for
walk-in registrants.

membership association of farmers, gardeners, and consumers. OEFFA conducts

Thanks for posting this, Laura. I'm forwarding it to my sister-in-law =
in
Penna., a market gardener (organic, of course).
(Contra dancing, naturally. RSCDS-Scottish is definitely NOT folk =
dancing.)

I am hoping to be there. Most years I do a
workshop on season extension at that
conference, but I don't think I will this
year (but what if I gave a season extension
workshop and Eliot Coleman sat in on it? That
would be a rush). This is the second time
Coleman has presented at this conference
The Back Porch String Band would welcome
scottish dancing enthusiastically and would
likely ask any scottish dancer to teach the
rest ofd the dancers.
It's a really nice conference and if you are
within 250 miles of Columbus Ohio I'd suggest
you try and go.
Lucy
Chieftains are pretty good too - and they are cutting back very hard on
their touring these days. Alas, the absence of lovely Derek Bell is
showing. One of the wisest men I ever knew, both musically and in attitude
to life - much missed by the Chieftains and all his other friends
kathryn
Kathryn, I was sad to hear about Derek too. You are lucky you were a
friend.
My dear 16 is babysitting so that we can attend which is a great
sacrifice for him. He loves the Chieftains too. He shares the name of one
them!
