Does any one know if the common daisy is a chrysanthemum or a bellis? I
have
a whole bunch dotted around my garden right now bouncing here and there
amongst the peonea's and roses, I have had these particular daisys for
15
years they keep going by means of re-seeding I think they are bellis?

They sound like bellis, from your description. :)

Small plants, suitable for rock gardens. Prefer cool weather,
dislikes clay. Flowers close at dusk.

They're larger plants, bloom later in the season...and perennial.

Painted daisy (Chrysanthemum coccineum)

Again, taller plants...perennial...but can seed around somewhat.

I think they are Chrysanthemum leucanthemum, (or Leucanthemum vulgare) -
if,
what you are describing are the ones with the white rays flowers and
yellow
disk flowers that we call Ox-Eye daisies; from Europe and Asia,
naturalized
in the USA.

thanks for the links ! I am still not sure . I got these plants via a
wild
flower mix that my uncle gave me they have been a wildly relyable
spring
time treat for years. they get pretty tall and fall all over them
selves
so I was looking for them in the book " the well tended perenial garden
"(
which I keep hearing people on this list refer to so I went out and
bought
it , what a great book!) to see if they could be pinched back before
flowering to achieve shorter sturdier plants. they don't look like
shasta
daisys because they look more weedy they have a 1/2 inch yellow center
and
1 inch white petals.
