I know I probably shouldn't use the "M" word here, but Martha Stewart
had a TV show on planting and growing orchids this week. Maybe for
starters you could tune into her Web page and see what advice she has? -

Hi folks,
I've been thinking of starting a collection of
indoor orchids. Anybody got a favorite book
that helps with care and display, and perhaps
some descriptions? I gurss there are a bazillion
different kinds.
Since folks are talking about blooms, I've
got 4 or 5 crocus flowers blooming. Little
yellow ones. I first spotted them Saturday. I also
have some lovely Forsythia blooming inside
from branches I trimmed from my neighbor
a week or so ago. Hey... they were all
hanging over my side of the fence, honest!!

I have great success with their plants . . .have something blooming almost
all the time. In summer I hang my plants under a tree where the irrigation
hits them and ignore them until the temp dips down in the fall and bring
them in. They LOVE neglect so be careful NOT to water too much.

Subject: Orchid book?
Thanks to Jenny, Toni and Libba for the orchid
suggestions. I actually saw Martha's show on
orchids, but didn't think of her website... what
a good idea, thanks.
I bought two plants at Home Depot yesterday,
past bloom, pretty much. But it's a start. The
RI Flower show usually has a big selection
available. Maybe I'll pick up another plant
and some info there, too. Think I'll go Friday.
What day are you going, June? I'm taking my
3 year old, so I wouldn't suggest we plan a
day-long get-together, but it would be fun to
meet and say hi.

Dear Peg,
Thank you for the invite -- I'd love to meet and say "Hi" too
at the flower show.
But this year I'm probably not going. I've got jury duty.
Haven't you enjoyed this winter with almost no snow? I can't
believe it. I know we have plenty of time yet for more cold
weather, but I haven't missed shoveling and shoveling.
The flower show looked wonderful. Hope you have the best time
ever. It always gives me a lift to see all the flowers, bushes
and trees there in February.
Best always,
June
