poison ivy soap?

Hi Arnhild, is there some kind of brand name on the soap? We used one
one the farm when I was a child that was called "Fels Naptha" that
smelled very bad(I am not sure of the spelling.) It was the one that we
were threatened with when we were caught in a lie. (I'll wash your
mouth out with Fels Naptha!) It was a very harsh soap so it might be
good at washing poison ivy.

Although I think that most dishwashing detergents do better at removing
oils than any soap!

hey - a neighbour of mine got a present from USA - one thing in it was
something called Poison Ivy soap - did not say more - we were wondering
if
the sopa were made of poison Ivy plant OR it was meant for use afte you
had
been in touch with that ivy? I promised her people in this list would
know :)

We do not have that ivy by us. The soap smelled very bad

There is a lotion/soap named "Technu" that is sold as a poison oak/ivy
cleanser. The problem with poison oak and ivy is that the oil combines
with the skin and is impossible to remove with normal soaps and
cleansers. The poison oil "locks" chemically to the skin and requires this
special lotion to unlock it. I does not smell "good" (although I didn't
find it offensive so much as having a "chemical" smell).

If you are unlucky enough to get tangled up with poison oak/ivy you will
gladly do almost anything to reduce the blistering, burning and itching
which will persist for a week or more. Of course, if you live where the
plant does not grow then you have no use for the lotion.
Very respectfully,

I suspect this they received one of the Burt's Bees starter kits. They have
a product called Poison Ivy soap, it, like Technu, is to remove Poison Ivy.
Here is a blurb about it:

Burt's Bees Poison Ivy Soap, 0.80 oz (22.7g) ~ Our unique blend of
jewelweed, clay and pine tar are carefully formulated to offer an effective
cleansing bar of soap, perfect for anyone who enjoys the great out-of-doors.
Effective on poison oak and sumac, too. Directions: Wash the affected area
two or three times a day. Ingredients: Vegetable soap base, vegetable
glycerin, oat protein, kaolin (natural clay), tea tree oil, pine tar, garden
balsam leaf (jewelweed).

Yes I think it was that one . at least it was something including bee's in
the producer's name.

Thanks to those of you that helped!
- now we know it is against poison ivy and not made from it. We do not
have that ivy here by us ... maybe it can be used against burning nettle? I
do have Rhus ( sumac) in my garden though .. I do not know what poison oak
is so I don't think we have it - any Latin name there?
