terminator on art bell all night show

Art Bell interviewed Patrick Mooney of RAFI (Rural Advancement Fountdation
International) re: the Terminator Technology early AM Jan. 27, on his all-night
show. (I was told recently that if you have the facility and can access Art
Bell's website www.artbell.com you can hear the whole interview.)

Patrick is a Canadian who has been in environmental activism for 30 years. He
was articulate and understated. Art was suitably alarmed and magnified the
truth very well for those familiar and unfamiliar with the ramifications of
this and other risks from GE crops.

Art Bell's website (www.artbell.com) is now linked with RAFI's (scroll down the
guest list to "Pat Mooney" and click) so that millions of Art's listeners can
join the other 4000 people in 62 countries who have used or customized RAFI's
sample letter to ask the USDA to mothball this technology -- NOT to hand it
over to Monsanto. Patrick explained that they own it jointly and it remains to
be decided/negotiated over the next few weeks who will get it). People can
also write their Congresspeople to join the campaign.
RAFI website www.rafi.org or http://www.rafi.org/usda.html

(I will send the letter out very soon.)

However, it appears that Monsanto has downplayed the terminator patent, because
it has others in the pipeline, as do the other big GE companies. There are now
patent applications for use of terminator-like technologies in 87 countries.
Patrick is hoping those governments will simply not approve them.

Art read from the University of Chicago study showing that GE crops are 20%
more likely to transfer their genetic traits via accidental cross-pollination.

One new bit of information that Patrick Mooney brought out is that the
University of Texas now has a terminator technology for targetting insects.
This is very alarming, too. Art Bell asked the obvious question - what would
happen to the world without insects?

The followup on the terminator technology for insects is due from RAFI the end
of this week. We traced the inventors to University of Texas at Dallas, but
RAFI wants to put out a full and correct statement covering all the
ramifications - one that non-scientists can handle. So, we will wait for the
fruits of their labors.

When Art asked Patrick what it felt like to have coined the term that has
caught on around around the world, he replied that he was glad because that is
the precise description of the technology and that Monsanto is reluctantly
using it now, too. "Suicide sequence" is another that kept coming up re: how
the technology works inside the cells. Art Bell said he felt humanity is in a
"suicide sequence."

I am only able to tape the first 90 minutes of Art's programs, starting on the
second hour. There a many ads, but a lot of ground was covered. These
interviews can go on for 4 hours.

Dear Terry,

Thank you for your care and interest. Art Bell does a radio show out of
Parump, Nevada for 5 hours or so, depending on what your station carries. The
best way to find out how to find out where it is broadcast it is to go to his
website at www.artbell.com
(I know it is broadcast in Canada because many Canadians phone in with
questions, etc. when he opens the phone lines.)

There should be info there to see how to hear it. If you or a friend have
audio facility, you can hear the entire interview on the internet.

I have the first 90 minutes on tape (less than an hour w/o the ads - still
covers a lot of info). I am happy to send a copy to you, if you need it and
you will send me $4. Please let me know if you want one.

Bless you,
Judy

Hi Judy,

In regard to the last sentence of the above quote, I feel that I must
refer you (and all who may be interested) to a book by Richard Leakey
(the famous paleoanthropologist and wildlife conservator) with Roger
Lewin. The book is called "The Sixth Extinction" in which he compares
what is currently happening to wildlife (of ALL kinds) under man's
"stewardship" to the great mass extinctions of life which have occurred
several previous times over the thousands of millions of years of life
on earth (the most famous of these being the "end-Cretaceous" extinction
when all the dinosaurs perished). That one was caused by an asteroid or
comet striking the earth, RL and RL consider that an equivalent
catastrophe is happening right now, that we ourselves are causing it,
and that we ourselves may well be one of the species to become extinct
during it.

The book was published by Doubleday in 1995, ISBN 0-385-42497-3. It is
complete with many references to published work by many good scientists,
and is not a "scare tactics" book, although it is a fairly
blood-chilling read.
