dwarf apple trees and a poem

Hi All,
When I see the success of the dwarf
apple trees, I'm really tempted to
try and grow two.
Anyone try these?

Stolen Apples
GBy Ray Rasmussen

I't's pitch black
and, I'm a boy again
climbing the fence
dropping into the dark yard
to steal the small, red apples.

When it was my yard
not so long ago,
when my father last visited,
He and I, together,
planted the apple tree.

It's there still,
in someone elses yard.
We sold the house,
but not my heart,
not my father's apple tree.

June - munching an apple

I like that poem, June.
It doesn't have to be an apple tree, it can be any childhood thing.

I liked it too - just one of those little poems
Here's one I'm working on --

Gabe at the Beach

He's just a puppy,
'Bout 5 months or so.
I take him down to the beach
He can run and he can grow.

He knows by scent when we arrive
Every muscle tense - every sense alive
He jumps and paws like a stallion does the ground.

He fights the lead; he wants to be free
He tries to see all at once - land, sand and sea
Briefly he's with me - but more no than yes.

There's seagulls sitting on the sand
I unhook the leash and let him run --
Sending them flying easily above him.

He has such joy that I laugh.

Hi Jo,
I get tempted - I think you need two
to polinate. Here, the Master Gardener
has a little patch of dwarf apple trees -
I've never tasted the apples, but they
do get them just fine.
East picking too as they are not very
tall.

I just remembered...have you checked out the mini-dwarf fruit trees?
Even I would have enough room for one or two of those,

Two seasons ago I planted a semi-dwarf Crimson Surprise and a dwarf
Golden Delicious something-or-other...

They are supposed to be okay to cross pollinate each other, although
I've only had a couple of little blossoms on just one tree so far, so I
still don't know for sure.

They're small, though. I've been working to update my website. I'll try
to include photos of the trees so you can see them. I'll let everyone
know when the pictures are up.

Hi Karen,
I must groom him tonight - he's shedding - I
hope he gets a nice, thick winter coat.
They were showing some coyotes on TV last
night and they were pretty with their
thicker fur.
They have discovered that they are changing
neighborhoods - - why?? The trashcans!
Those that have the newer trashcans that
they can't get into have fewer coyotes and
may have even caused a little migration.
Interesing because those with the nice, new
expensive cans are probably those with the
nice new houses that took over the coyote's
habitat to begin with.

I think I saw a dead coyote pup by the roadside.
Still so much like a dog that I felt a twang.

Gabe is gorgeous. And unruly. And I should
give up and get a toy poodle. Sigh. But I've
lost my heart. He paws the beach sand, leaps
in the air, puts his head back to sniff the wind
and is glad to be alive. He runs as fast as
he can and comes when called (a miracle) but
is too unpredicable to be off leash when people
are there. He will jump up on them to play
and he's big. He rolls, he laughs,( yes, he does)
and can't do enough all at once - as though he
knows the time on the beach will be so short.

A toy poodle is just as wonderfully unruly as any other dog - and just
as hard to catch when she runs away to do her own thing. Rosie, now 14
and much more docile took many years to learn to come immediately when
called and she still hesitates if there are too many good sniffs to
explore. With the lovely warm weather to enjoy, I took her out to
wander on her own and she spent, maybe a total of an hour enjoying great
sniffs only to come home completely exhausted. She skipped supper and
slept solidly for several hours. I guess I won't feel too badly this
winter when I'm not able to take her outdoors very often. Dogs age so
much more quickly than we humans and it's hard to see a good friend
getting to the end of her life and our friendship. I'm making sure I
enjoy every moment we share.

Marion, what a sweet little dog though.
My friend has a little poodle and it is
just a bunch of love.
Lately, I've taken to clapping my hands and
he responds quicker to that than being called
for some reason. Right now, he needs a good
brushing -- he's shedding little clumps of
fur.
This morning I put his big kong in his new
doghouse and he finally went in and at least
ate the contents of his kong in there.
This is good. So far, he has refused to enter
the new port-a-pet out on the porch that I have
there in case of rain.

He was pretty well behaved at my sister's house -
of course I kept him on leash. I tied it to my
chair so he couldn't go anywhere but at my feet.
One swish of his tail would demolish her knick-knacks.
