I left a small fan running on my orchid shelf last summer and managed to dry
one of my particularly favourite plants (mottled-leafed phalaenopsis) out
quite badly. It ran for more than 24 hours and the draft bounced back over
the plant giving it a double whammy.
That plant was in a major grow mode and then in leas than 48 hours went all
limp and lost that healthy gloss on the leaves. I soaked it and moved it to
the back of the shelf after being advised to chuck it. I knocked it off the
shelf, and when I went to pick it up I kicked it at the same time...bouncing
it off a table lag then the wall. Poor plant. Back on the shelf with a rock
holding it in its pot now.
That was about August, during a hot humid stretch. This month I decided I
must clean up and if something wasn't paying its way, for whatever reason,
out it goes. Well, this little orchid has some shiny growth on the last
leaf it put out and there seems to be a new leaf coming. The old growth
won't repair itself, apparently, but if I can keep it coming through the
summer, this plant should make a full recovery. I don't fuss with it, It
just is being time to recover
