amaryllis and number of leaves

I am wondering if perhaps one can see from the number of leaves on an amaryllis when it is big enough to flower or to get a sidebulb.

Those 5 from Bargylla have two leaves.
My one sidebulb has four, as do most of the ones that flower.
But the mother of the sidebulb has six leaves!

Does anyone know anything much about amaryllis, enough to corroborate this?

I see a lot of them right now, as I put one away for a couple of months every Saturday, and bring the next one down as the centerpiece on my table, so the leaves can droop all over the mess for a week. I love them, even when they aren't flowering and am so happy that they can flourish even during winter with no heat at all! Denmark is definitely not San Diego!
