The last time I had a strawberry (about 34 yrs ago) I broke out in hives.
The allergist I went to about 15 yrs ago told me that it is possible to also
be allergic to other berries so I have just avoided them for the most part. I
have never attempted eating cooked stawberries although I have had
things with cooked raspberries and had no reaction.

Okay...I just wondered if you should even risk picking blackberries if =
you
were allergic to strawberries...and did a short websearch for answers.

I discovered that *some* people can avoid any reactions by rinsing
strawberries in hot water. Others can't eat the raw fruit but can eat =
the
cooked fruit. So...I mused...strawberries themselves might not be the
allergen. What if, for example, some fungus piggy-backing on =
strawberries
was the actual agent setting off allergic responses for some people?

If you've been told to avoid berry fruit in general...the allergist =
might be
assuming that you're one of those people allergic to that fungus rather =
than
to strawberries themselves, and that fungus is common on berry fruit but =
not
on all fruit. (Lotta assumptions in there...but that was the reasoning
behind why I asked if you could eat cooked strawberries.)
